Letter Grade Policy

Updated 1/18/2023: During Spring 2020 only, the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Department will allow classes taken to fulfill major requirements to be taken P/NP instead of for a letter grade. Students should refer to EEB Department and Office of the Registrar email messaging for more information.

Please note that while your Spring 2020 P grade is accepted by the department, it will not show as completed in your Degree Progress Report (DPR). To have your DPR updated, please contact eebadvising@ucsc.edu.

Unless otherwise noted (see above), all courses used to satisfy any of the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology major requirements must be taken for a letter grade.  This includes both introductory lower division and advanced upper division requirements.

Courses taken for Pass/No Pass CANNOT be used to satisfy your major requirements. Only courses with grades of C (2.0) or better can be used to fulfill major requirements.  Courses in which you receive a grade of C-, D+, D, D- or F cannot be used to satisfy a major requirement or to satisfy a prerequisite for another course.

Upon enrolling in your courses, the grading option will automatically be set to letter grade.  For courses required for the major, do NOT change to the pass/no pass grading option.  If you have mistakenly enrolled in a course for pass/no pass, you may change your grading option to a letter grade prior to the Grade Option Deadline.
